For a client project we need the cisco vpn client to connect to the datacenter. Besides that the import of the profile doesn't work (the claims, the import worked, but it doesn't show up), the uninstall procedure (which is recommended before you upgrade) deleted my whole /opt/ directory. O M G. Does anyone test that sh... at cisco? Too much LSD during development? And what I heard, the client on Linux isn't any better...

In my experience, VPN clients are *always* a pain ;-)

The only reason for me to use VirtualPC on my mac is for the Checkpoint VPN client, which still (AFAIK) hasn't been updated to run on Tiger.

Yes, it is a pain. But the inofficial vpnc client for linux is much better than the official from cisco.

Well, you could use VPNMenu (http://blog.klockenga.net/vpnmenu/) which is kinda better frontend for the shitty cisco thing.

I have to use the Cisco VPN client to get onto my university network. I've never tried to do anything overly advanced, but I've found the Mac version to be reasonable.

The _Windows_ version, however, refuses to run without Administrator permissions and so has been firmly told to get off my computer and never return.

Check todays OS X Software update, - it includes Cisco VPN. Maybe it's true that "you never walk alone" ;-) Don't know if you were using NAT though - interesting coincidence anyways.

The 10.4.5 Update is recommended for all users and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes for the following applications and technologies:

I've worked out the problem with the import of Cisco VPN profiles for OS X, you need to make sure the profile extension is in lower case, i.e. .pcf; not .PCF
